Up & Out of the home in 30 mins- my daily beauty routine


Anyone who knows me and follows this blog knows I’m the diy chic. I love and use a lot of natural products. I’m not out to knock the beautician’s hustle; but I believe  there’s a lot of natural ingredients we can use in its closest to natural form as possible befire its refined by the cosmetics company and a minute quantity of it sold to us at an exorbitant price with lots of skin-harming preservatives. 

Because I love diy, I tend to have a lot of stuff to experiment with. Space is one constraint I struggle with in my closet and later in the post, I will introduce Makespace a storage and organising facility which I hope can help me with this, but first lets go through my beauty routine.

In today’s post, I’m going to take us through my daily beauty routine and the products I use.

In the morning, I wash with my face using a soft baby towel (I’m holding out for a foreo Luna mini face brush- do I have any volunteers?).

I follow that with my tumeric-gram flour-bentonite clay mixture face mask.

I bought them all separately from Jules therapy. You should visit their online shop, they have a lot of good stuff for the diy chic.

I make a paste of the tumeric mixture by mixing with water or lime juice for an added punch, or coconut oil when my skin feels dry; and I apply directly to clean skin.

Rinse off after 5-15 minutes and you’re good to go. Tumeric is a herb that’s good for acne treatment, oil control, etc. I should do a separate post on tumeric and it’s numerous uses soon.

I brush my teeth, pack my bag and do some other things while the mask is on my face.

I don’t use the tumeric face mask on all mornings, on the days I don’t; I cleanse with Dermatess facial cleanser. It’s a local product I’ve found to be as effective as Marykay Blemish control toner.

Depending on what time of the month it is; I either follow with neo-medrol acne lotion (or Marykay Acne treatment gel) or I skip that step and go right to my moisturiser.

My morning moisturiser is Marykay timewise pore minimises. It’s the step 2 in the micro demabrasion set.

Next up, I follow with Marykay foundation primer- spf 15 and the rest of my makeup routine (that’s a post for another day).

Next up; I need to dress up. I approach my closet which is full and bursting at the seams, with me having to store some clothes in bags above the closet.

It is very scattered.

A few weeks ago, I learned about a company called makespace they are a self-storage facility. That help you keep your personal stuff which you don’t need atm and you can retrieve them as needed.

I’m not sure they are in Nigeria atm, but I could sure use them. Please MakeSpace get back to me on if you’re in  Nigeria presently; I could sure to with some space.

So, I rumage through my closet for something to wear (‘coz of the space constraints I have clothes hanging in themselves with one hanger holding as many as 3 clothes). I get dressed, pick a matching shoe and I’m off to work.


Tired, ready to fall into bed, but I always ensure I take off my makeup before bed.

I use Johnson’s no more tears baby wipes to take off makeup. Then I follow with facial cleanser and Marykay Micro- demabrasion scrub twice a week. I cleanse, moisturize with vanity oils skin toning therapy and it’s off to bed for a sound sleep.

I couldn’t show my show and bag closer on here cos it’s FULL, bursting and impossible to organise. Lol! 6 Spa Treatments You Can Do Easily at Home


Preparing for a special day, or you would just love to pamper yourself often and you can’t splurge on a day at the spa as often as you’d like? No problem. Just bring the spa home. There are so many treatments you can easily do in the comfort of your home, and for a fraction of the cost too! You can even invite your friends over and do them together. It’ll double the fun!

#1 Facial

Who doesn’t own a face brush? Grab yours and give yourself a facial, it’s available everywhere, from the pricey to the affordable. Use it with your face wash to remove all the dead cells and impurities that are accumulating on your skin. Next, apply your favourite face mask.

Hydrating masks  make skin super soft and smooth. Wait 20 minutes before taking your mask off, and follow up with your favourite moisturizer. Your skin now looks great and for a fraction of the cost of a spa facial!

#2 Aromatherapy

A warm, aromatherapy bath is the perfect way to relax at the end of a long, busy day. Mix one part sea salt, one part epsom salt, and two parts baking soda. Add a few drops of your favourite essential oil.  Lavender is soothing, eucalyptus invigorating, and orange energizing. Pour the mixture in the water and sink into the bathtub. Sit back and relax for as long as you need. No rush. This is your me-time.

#3 Body scrub

Exfoliation does wonders for the skin. It removes the dead cells that accumulate on the surface, and makes skin smoother and brighter. And it’s so easy to do at home. Simply mix some sugar with olive oil, and apply the mixture all over your body. Rinse it off, and feel your skin. It’s so soft now!

#4 Hot oil hair treatment

Is your hair dull and lackluster? Give it some life and shine with a homemade hot oil hair treatment. Pour equal amounts of olive oil and coconut oil (the longer your hair, the more you’ll need) into a bowl. Then, add a few drops of your favourite essential oil. Stir the mixture and put it in the microwave. Heat on high for 10 seconds.

Now, brush your hair well to remove knots and tangles. Get in the shower, and pour the oily mixture on your scalp, and massage it throughout your hair. Wrap a towel around your hair and wait half an hour before shampooing as normal. Doesn’t your hair look great now?

#5 Waxing

No, I’m not recommending you wax your private bits at home. But you can easily wax your legs, arms, and armpits. Opt for moisturizing roller waxes, they are newbie-friendly and gentler, even for sensitive skin. Don’t forget to shower first!

#6 Pedicures

Your feet carry you around all day. Why not treat them to a nice pedicure? Soak your feet in warm water for at least 5 minutes. Then, exfoliate them to remove those layers of dead cells that rough them up. Trim your nails and file them into shape. Now, grab your favourite nail polish and put it on. Voilà. Now your feet are sandal-ready.

The Five Step DIY Facial


We all know beautiful skin is every woman’s best feature, regular professional facials is one way of getting and maintaining gorgeous glowing skin. However, for the busy and broke girls, here are some steps with which you can give yourself a mini-facial.

Take off all your makeup and wash your face with your favourite makeup remover and cleanser to get rid of all the surface dirt and oil. Don’t forget your neck and ears.

Use a gentle face scrub to gently take off dead surface skin cells, and prep your skin for the yummy goodies to come. Using your fingertips, apply the scrub in small circular motions to damp skin, making sure to concentrate on your T-zone. Scrub can be extended to your lips as well (be careful not to get it into your mouth).

Steaming your face opens up the pores, allowing trapped dirt and oil come out and making it easier for your skin to absorb the products benefits, also helps you get that lovely glow. Steam your face at home by placing a warm wash cloth over your face for a few minutes, or place your face over a pot/bowl of steaming hot water with a towel draped over your head for a few minutes.

For oily skin; use a clay based mask. For dry skin, a hydrating or gel mask works best. Use according to product package directions.

Smooth your favourite skin-type appropriate moisturizer on your face and neck to lock in the moisture.
Remember to use a moisturizer with at least SPF 15 and above.

Maintain a great skin by doing the five step facial once a week.
